ROBERT TAYLOR Freelance Photographer

My main photographic preoccupations are portraiture and bodies. I feed my fascination with people by not only photographing them, but also often interviewing them about all sorts of personal and worldly subjects, including sometimes their feelings about the photographic process and the results. I then exhibit or publish their responses alongside my images. All this in pursuit of revelation, liberation, and fun.

I came to photography via the RAF, the English Bar and educational publishing. Whilst photography remains my main interest, I enjoy distractions such as the co-production of a Channel 4 documentary about black divas and their queer fans (broadcast September 1996), and the occasional photography related TV appearance.

Short Essays
A series of essays about some of my more challenging and unusual photo assignments with subject matter that it would be inappropriate or impractical to display on the website. Later essays will include descriptions of: an art photography project with some autistic children, a personal portrait of a small rural community in West Africa and an explicit safer sex guide for gay men.
