Sixteen people agreed to be the subject of a painted and a photographic portrait - created completely independently - and then asked to compare and contrast the two media, describing their experiences of the two different processes, and feelings about the results. The exhibition features the portraits and extracts from their written responses.

Painter Sally Bamber and Photographer Robert Taylor look forward to welcoming you to Three-way – Sally, Robert and sixteen people; editor, writer, dancer, entrepreneur, judge, actress, physics PhD student, typographer, architect, artist, researcher, designers and film-makers – are each the subject of a painted and
a photographic portrait. They compare and contrast the two media, their respective experiences and the results. The works are displayed with extracts from the answers in an exhibition and a catalogue. We invite you to make your own comparisons.
Robert & Sally asked their subjects:
1. Before the start of the project, what were their feelings about being painted and photographed?
2. After their sessions, what were their feelings about sitting for Sally and being photographed by Robert?
3. What were their feelings about the results?
4. How they described themselves and whether their experiences of participating in the project changed that sense of self.
5. We also asked them if they themselves wanted to comment on any aspect of the project.
